Book Review: Fangirl

I smile and my face hurts.

I don’t think there is a book I love more than Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl. It usually takes no more than a day or two to finish a book. However, it took me over a week on purpose to finish Levi and Cass’s story. I used all the orange sticky notes for this and I regret none of them.

I’m not sure I’ve ever been as involved with a character as Cather. Reading Fangirl also reminded me of how hard it was to be a freshman.

Cather Avery is a writer, but she doesn’t believe she can create her own world out of her words. I was in Cather’s position a year ago. I remember the first day I spent in her Fiction-Writing class with Tom Franklin. After he informed us that only publishable stories could get an A in his class, I was petrified. I thought about quitting writing. My class was full of real writers. publishable author.

Tom didn’t like the first story I submitted, and considering I submitted an excerpt of a story I wrote for my Beginners Fiction class, he didn’t deserve to be proud. I was so scared to start anything new. I was a caster. The day came when my classmates would critique my story, and my palms were sweaty. I was trying to come up with a story for weeks until I finally stumbled upon something I had never written before that he had written anything like Virago. It was not full of Faulkner sentences. It was blunt and hung on the edge of too much dialogue. .

Rainbow Rowell is sophisticated. she is simple I love her writing because she doesn’t need sequins or diamonds to make her own words stand out.I don’t know if she’s ever read an ending so easily written by her. I do not understand. I’ve never laughed so hard at an ending. I smiled at every word she said.

“It’s just… everything. There are too many people. And I don’t fit. I don’t know what to do. What I’m good at isn’t what matters there. Being smart is important.” No, it doesn’t matter – and being good with words. And when they matter, it’s because people want something from me.

People who know that my university major was English Literature see me differently. Some people make mean comments all the time. Some people always somehow find a way to tell me that I worked hard for a nonsensical degree. not. They say to me, “Good luck with that,” and grin. I cried so many times that I would be lying if I said I didn’t care. But the thing is, I’m a writer. I have these stories in my head that won’t go away until I write them down, so I’m going to make it as a writer. It’s very hard to do what you love when you’re classified as liberal arts, but I know it will happen if you really believe you can do it. The important thing is to keep doing what you love. Because it feels so good.

“Happily ever after, or just being together forever doesn’t feel cheap,” Ren said. “It’s the noblest, most courageous thing two people can aim for.”

Rainbow Rowell is writing a love story. She shows readers that love doesn’t have to be dramatic, and that the best love stories don’t have to end badly. They can finish very easily. I used to be afraid to write only love stories. Many people seem to look down on me, but that’s what I write. You write what you love. There is nothing I love more than reading about two people finding each other. I write love stories and it makes my heart so happy. That’s because happiness is really “the most courageous thing two people can shoot”.

“But… isn’t it okay to give up once in a while? Isn’t it okay to say ‘Let’s stop because it hurts so much’?”

“It sets a dangerous precedent.”

“To avoid pain?”

“To avoid life”

I love Rainbow Lowell and am so grateful that she helped me without realizing it. I’m so glad her friend Alison forced me to read Eleanor and Park. I want to sit on the floor and read this book every day for the rest of my life. It’s so magical.

Like I said, I almost gave up on Tom Franklin’s class because I was afraid it was going to be difficult and he would make fun of me for writing a love story. Because you would have read

“Alex – yes, this is the beginning of a great story. I want you to come see your mother-in-law. You write great dialogue and use drama well. Great prose. My notes need explanation.” If so, please let me know. – TF”
