Introducing Our Newest Vendor – Sonos Audio Distribution Systems

So last week I got the chance to bring home a Sonos audio distribution system. I decided to run the whole range and tried the ZP90, ZP120 and even the new S5. Control was handled by a CR200 and my trusty iPhone. I was tired of hearing how good it was and fully expected it to go wrong, but I didn’t want to beat it without first-hand knowledge.

So I took the system home, unpacked the “Bundle 250” and got to work. The first thing I did, which I recommend doing the same, was to connect the charging base to charge the C200. Hmm. please do not worry. It’s just powered off for shipping. Once you turn it on at home, you’ll never completely turn it off again.

The ZP90 was then moved to the family room where the primary system was already located. My cable modem and router were already there, so that was easy enough. I plugged in power from the Panamax M5300-PM, connected the (included) ethernet cable to the Airport Extreme, and connected with an analog audio patch cable. completed.

Sonos systems can work wired or wireless, but at least one must be connected to a wired Internet connection. For me, this was his ZP-90 mentioned above. However, you may not have a wired network connection anywhere on your Zone Player. For this, Sonos has developed Zone Bridge. This is a $99 little box that allows him to have one hardwired connection without spending over $349 on an unused Zone player.

Next is ZP110 in the bedroom. I just plugged it into my Panamax M4-EX and connected it to my trusty B&W CM1 speakers.

The M5 is finally here. I put it on the kitchen counter and plugged it into the wall. that’s it. Wow, this was getting easier and easier. I’m sure something will explode soon.

Instead, once the parts were all connected, setup was a breeze: I inserted the CD into my computer, followed the instructions to register my system, and I was all set.

Add the C200 and your iPhone as system controllers and you’re ready to play. A note about controllers – iPhones or otherwise – only works when connected to a network. You can’t use your iPhone from the office and turn on spooky Halloween music to freak out your spouse at home. It’s a shame, I know.

Anyway, using the system was easy. Finally, I have my last.fm, Rhapsody, Sirius, and Napster accounts all in one place at once. Not to mention the seemingly endless free internet radio stations. Want traditional Irish music from Ireland? No problem. A few days before your next London trip and want to hear some London news? Just a few clicks on the ultra-smooth C200 controller. It looks like an iPhone clone failed, but it actually works like a champ. It’s super fast and very easy to use. Oh yeah, it also makes a pretty good alarm in the morning.

Note that I didn’t say “alarm clock”. The C200’s clock is certainly accurate, and while it never failed to turn on and wake me up, it never really got dark enough at night, and I’ve had to set it to stay on for more than a day. neither. It’s hours when you’re in the cradle, so you need a watch if you want to know the time from time to time. Plus, if your spouse doesn’t have an iPhone, they can always steal her C200 and have all this new music right at her fingertips. , find your C200 or iPhone and make sure you can turn it off in the morning. Otherwise, you’ll have to run into your bedroom to hit the “mute” button on the unit.

As for Zone Players, the Z90 was great and so was the Z110. That little amp far beats its size and price. As for the S5, I really like seeing better quality sources than most internet radio stations can offer. But when I feed him 192k+ music from my computer or her NAS drive, it boots up quickly and sings very beautifully. It also plays quite loudly. Drag it onto the back porch of a party and I think you won’t be disappointed. I’ve never heard a battery-operated one sound so good.

Speaking of better sources, invest in a small NAS drive if you use your Sonos system a lot and prefer the better quality you get from using your existing music. It uses much less energy than your computer and may pay for itself in about a year. increase. If you store your music on your NAS and tell iTunes to use it as your library, or run the syncing software that comes with most NAS drives, it will also create a backup, which is never a bad idea. With this method, you only need to turn on the computer when you actually use it. You know how important things like paying bills online, internet porn, or paying internet porn bills online.

So I was really impressed with the Sonos system. And not just because you thought it was terrible and it wasn’t. This is a well thought out and justifiably good system that works and sounds great. I was actually pretty disappointed to have to pack it up and return it. My fiancée liked it too and I hope to get one for myself soon.
