Learn Guitar Online: 3 Deadly Sins Guitarists Commit Trying to Learn Guitar

Do you commit these sins? Do you constantly feel like your guitar playing is going nowhere? Well, you’re not alone, over 85% of guitarists feel this way; Despite New Year’s resolutions and best intentions every year it’s the same old tired licks and boring chords and the feeling that they go around in circles.

Here are 3 of the most common deadly sins that guitar players around the world commit on a daily basis. These 7 habits are the cause of so much grief and sorrow and are deadly to any aspiring guitarist… See if you can spot anything familiar on the list.

Sin 1: The Google Guitarist –

Symptoms: frustration, anxiety, depression

These days it’s always near the top of the list, let’s face it there is a lot of information on the internet, youtube videos, articles, free lessons, blogs, etc. ranging from excellent quality to complete garbage.

At the end of the day most “google” guitar students can’t really play a whole song, sure they can play parts of this song and the intro of this song and a cute little blues lick that doesn’t seem to fit anywhere but nothing really to show for hundreds of internet trolls.

Information overload is one of the biggest causes of frustration and stress for the beginning guitarist, when all this information comes to us twenty-four-seven, three-sixty-five combined with the beginner’s inability to accurately distinguish whether the information in front of him is in the “great” category or the “junk” pile. The result is a guitarist who isn’t going anywhere at a breakneck pace!

What to do instead: Focus… Jumping endlessly from one site to another takes you away from your device; Try this instead:

(1) Turn off the computer,

(2) put down the guitar,

(3) Take out a piece of paper

(4) Write down exactly what you want to achieve.

Simple, I know but think of how many countless hours you will save if you follow the simple rules of success: (a) decide to do something, (b) do it!

Sin 2: Not understanding the growth process –

Symptoms: Inconsistent practice, stops playing for long periods

The process of playing the guitar is a never-ending series of three stages (1) self-exploration, (2) progression, (3) resting level… and on and on; Players of all levels go through these stages all the time, the difference is that the successful guitarist is constantly aware of what stage they are in right now and understands that no matter how they feel their training plan must be maintained.

What to do instead: Keep a record of how you feel about your practice sessions, over a period of a few weeks you will begin to recognize certain patterns emerging, always be aware of which particular stage you are going through (1) self-questioning, (2) progress or (3) This level of rest will help you move on and help you understand that this is all part of the growing process and that the psychological spin-off often feels like we’re getting nowhere when in fact just the opposite is true.

Sin 3: Being sucked into the vortex of time –

Symptoms: I didn’t find enough time to exercise (excuse)

Let’s be clear you will never find time… if you want time you have to make it!

Which comes down to priority.

We all have exactly the same amount of time each day. It’s everyone’s moment-to-moment choices about how we spend our time that ultimately makes the difference.

Have you ever experienced a time freeze while on Facebook? You might think you’ve been active for 5 minutes, but when you look at the clock you realize it’s been 2 hours. I was drawn into the Facebook vortex.

What to do instead: Be clear about what you want to learn and why you want to learn it, think back to the reason(s) you wanted to play guitar in the first place.

Always remember ‘your skill level equals your interest level’.
