Self-Mastery – 7 Mind Power Techniques That Boost Self Esteem

Many people pay little attention to their skills and abilities. Some of them cannot even understand that there are many potential abilities within them that are just waiting to be activated to serve as solutions to any given problem or keys to the realization of their long-standing dreams. The reason why this happens is due to low self-esteem.

Are you one of these people? Do you often say to yourself, “Why am I like this all the time?” or “What can I do to bring out the best in me?” I’m pretty sure there are a lot of things you want to do with your life. Maybe you want to visit many places, maybe you want people to appreciate your talent and recognize you for your skills, maybe you want to have more money to buy more things, or maybe you just want to be loved by someone special. However, all these will not be possible if you do not pay attention to the most important element that can make all these things happen. This element is your “self”.

This is supposed to be my first post after a major overhaul of my blog, so I thought I’d create a special article for my new visitors. The following items are some common techniques I learned when I was trying to find ways to boost my self-esteem years ago. All of these techniques can have powerful effects on your mind, and your mind is the tool you’re going to use to make significant changes in yourself, that’s why I chose to synthesize these two topics – mental strength and self-esteem. Let’s move on, shall we?

1. Modeling behavior

As social creatures, humans are highly inclined to imitate each other. Small children often learn to copy the behavior of their parents. Teenagers try to mirror the physical appearance of famous celebrities and musicians to get into the latest trend. More mature people imitate scientific, political, historical and other figures. Too often, people get stuck in a jumble of social roles without being aware of how those roles affect their lives.

Have you asked yourself lately what kind of role you are trying to play in your social environment? Archetypal simulation, complex as it may sound, is an influencing factor in the development of human behavior. This means that the type of people you look up to, the qualities they have and the characters they portray to everyone, including you, greatly influence your mind and inner self-esteem.

To boost your self-esteem, you can apply this method by writing down seven unique characteristics of the people you admire. Select the characteristics that are uniquely and positively attributed to these people. For example, Albert Einstein won not only for his genius, but also for his kind and friendly nature. Assign each of the characteristics you collected to a specific day and label it “character of the day”. If you’re wondering what you’re going to do with that, well, I guess it’s pretty obvious that you’re supposed to exhibit the behavior you assigned to a certain day of the week. Therefore, if you are a bit “genius” for Monday, you are expected to act like a genius throughout the day. A month of doing this is guaranteed to give you surprising results.

2. Automatic offer

You can tell me what or how you feel when you see the words

“Rich”, “famous”, “wealthy”, “popular”, “admired” and “successful?” Yes, I thought so. Doesn’t that get your blood pumping a bit? Well, I understand that the words “sex” and “orgasm” are more powerful in giving a pump, but that’s not what we’re talking about. But you felt it too, didn’t you?

Autosuggestion works by sending commands to your autonomic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system or ANS is the part of your nervous system that operates mostly below the level of consciousness. You may be familiar with the terms placebo effect and self-hypnosis. These are only some of its derivatives, but ultimately the purpose of these methods is to give you results by changing your beliefs.

Our beliefs lie within our superego or between the unconscious and conscious part of our brain. By repeatedly suggesting an idea or belief to yourself, you communicate with your primal mind and it responds by believing that your thoughts are true. Thus, if you constantly remind yourself that you are “rich”, “famous”, “wealthy”, “popular”, “admired” or “successful”, the red pill that Morpheus holds may make your dreams come true.

3. Mantras

Similar to autosuggestion, another brainpower technique that can boost your self-esteem is the use of mantras. Mantra is the religious equivalent of autosuggestion. If you’ve run out of natural methods and can’t think of anything else to help you improve your self-esteem, a slight diversion by using supernatural methods might be right for you. If you don’t believe all this nonsense, then a quick visit to my mind control archives can probably open your mind.

Moving on, let me first define what a mantra is. Mantras are verbal repetition of sounds or mental repetition of thoughts. In church services, people don’t know they are chanting mantras when they offer their songs of praise. In yoga people use the word “OM” and repeat it several times during meditation. In satanic rituals, well, let’s just not mention anything about it.

How are mantras used?

Personally, I made my mantras by typing them over and over in a Word document. It may sound silly, but as months passed since I started doing it, I noticed significant changes in my behavior (you can’t deny its effectiveness if you haven’t tried it yourself). Anyway, I learned this method from a book that suggests writing five hundred statements on a notepad. This was not optional for me at the time so I opened MS Word and typed my statement a hundred times. It said five hundred, so I did the technique every day for a whole month. Now, it’s more than five hundred. One of my mantras stated this: “I claim control of my true self.”

4. Imaging

Visualization is one of the basic techniques you can also use to increase your self-esteem. It has many applications, but since we are focusing on self-esteem, this method is designed to improve your perception of yourself.

The visualization technique was one of the techniques advocated by the New Thought movement at the end of the 19th century. When the movie “The Secret” was released, more people became aware of visualization and the useful benefits it offers in changing people’s lives. It may sound cheesy, but athletes all over the world have been using the imaging technique for several decades. If they can use it to win medals in the Olympic Games, it is obviously possible that you can use it to achieve your goals.

If you want to try this technique yourself, just imagine that you have the kind of characteristics you want. To strengthen the effect, include the five senses as you do this exercise. For example, imagine what you will look like once you reach your goal (visual), imagine the positive comments people will say about you (auditory), imagine the beautiful clothes you will wear (kinesthetic), and imagine the aroma and taste of the food you will eat (smell and taste). If you give your mind long enough to believe that you are the type of person you think you are, sooner or later you will be surprised by the results.

5. Breathing and stretching

Many people neglect their bodies and then complain about how miserable they feel when in fact, their problems are physical in nature. Sometimes people think they don’t have enough energy to complete a given task, and then they freak out about not being able to do anything meaningful. Sometimes people feel ineffective because they can’t think of useful ideas to change their lives. Maybe these people just need to breathe and relax.

If you often see yourself this way, then remember that what you think is related to what you feel, and what you feel is related to your body. Your soul is not separate from your body. Therefore, when you are not feeling well, you are likely to have the same thoughts and vice versa.

Apart from the benefits it can give to your health, breathing and stretching techniques are widely used by people to free the mind and self. Its roots are in an Eastern religious tradition, specifically called yoga. Your brain, like other parts of your body, needs a constant supply of oxygen to function fully. Yoga practitioners have a method called pranayama which means “restraint of the prana or breath”. The science behind it is that the cells in our body release toxins through the air that enters our lungs. A person who practices the correct form of breathing, through pranayama, is sure to have healthy cells, which therefore leads to a healthy body and a healthy mind.

Another way to improve your body’s vitality and energy is through poses and postures, which yoga practitioners call asana. 6. Concentration

Some people associate concentration with the toilet bowl. I don’t know why this is happening and I certainly don’t want to dwell on that thought. If this is enough for them to develop a high level of self-esteem then I have nothing against them.

Seriously though, when you spend enough time concentrating, you’ll start to have a lot of meaningful thoughts about the subject of your attention. I do this all the time when I write. So, when people ask me how I’m able to write all these things, I simply tell them “I expend enormous amounts of energy sitting on toilets”.

Okay, my apologies. I just can’t help it. In any case, when you begin to develop the habit of focusing deeply on yourself, you will begin to understand facts about your character. Ideas will begin to enter your thoughts and memories of your past experiences will begin to flash inside your head to offer you solutions to the problems you currently have. You might get the impression that I’m talking about daydreams, but it’s far from that.

When you concentrate, you need to be in control of your thoughts. You can do this by constantly asking yourself questions about the specific issue you want to address. So, for example, you want to understand how you can become a better writer, you can ask yourself questions like, “What kind of topics am I able to talk about for hours spontaneously?” or “How good am I at writing about things I’m most interested in discussing with other people?” The answers to your questions will come in the form of memories. Remember how Sherlock Holmes unravels mysterious cases by linking one piece of evidence to another? It works just like that. Hence, if you want to solve a particular case you have on yourself, concentrate. No more dumb jokes for now.

7. Liberation of thought

I had second thoughts about adding meditation to this list since I’ve already included it in several articles I’ve written before, so I gave it a new name. I don’t know if this sounds cool, but I just thought I’d let you know.

Moving on, meditation and the name I replaced it with basically mean the same thing. In ancient spiritual traditions, people use meditation to reach higher states of consciousness. They do this by preventing the brain from forming any thoughts. Of course, it’s not something you force on your mind because that defeats the purpose and is self-contradictory. Meditation is something you practice every day and you don’t force yourself while doing it. You still your mind by focusing on a single thought, object, word or prayer. When you are distracted by any other thought inside your head, simply acknowledge it and then return your attention to the object you are meditating on.

Have you ever asked yourself why people say prayers and where did this practice come from? This is true! Prayers are just one form of meditation and people use it to communicate with their higher self – one that is a collective of all consciousness that exists. We rarely find time to pay attention to our innermost source of strength which is our self. Remember that you are spiritual in nature and the most powerful technique that will really allow you to reach higher self-esteem is to communicate with your inner self.
